Care instructions for your cutting board
Each of my end-grain wood boards is unique. To enjoy your cutting board for a long time, please follow these care instructions:
Cleaning after use
- Wipe the cutting board with a damp cloth after use, if necessary with a little dish soap.
- Then dry the board thoroughly.
- Let the board air dry, but avoid direct sunlight.
- Avoid cleaning in the dishwasher or soaking in water.
- Do not use harsh scouring pads or aggressive cleaning agents.
Preventing damage
- Do not place the board on radiators or stoves and do not put hot objects on it.
- Do not leave steel objects on the board to avoid stains caused by reaction with tannic acid.
Oiling and care of the wood
Over time, the board may become a bit rougher or the wood color may appear paler. This is completely normal and a sign that it’s time for some care.
- Apply oil generously to the board. I recommend the safflower oil from the oil mill in Garting, as it has a neutral scent and hardly discolors the wood.
- Note that some vegetable oils can become rancid!
- You can always sand the surface yourself with fine sandpaper (K120-K180) and then treat it with oil.
